Its all about Trade-Offs

Many people accidently typed perplexity.in instead of perplexity.com ?

People often see what they want to see. They hear what they want to hear.
And recently, a viral claim has been circulating,

Type perplexity.in and see what happens! Google bought the .in domain for Perplexity. Huge move!

🔍 A Quick Whois Check

I compared the Whois records of perplexity.in and google.com.

  • perplexity.in → Registered through GoDaddy.com, uses standard GoDaddy nameservers.
  • google.com → Registered with Google’s own domain infrastructure and Google-managed nameservers.

If Google truly purchased perplexity.in, why would they rely on GoDaddy’s nameservers instead of their own?

Exactly they wouldn’t.

So what’s really happening?

💡 The Reality

Someone just a regular person has purchased perplexity.in, most likely hoping that Perplexity AI might someday want the domain and be willing to buy it for a premium.

It’s simple business, not a secret Google acquisition.

What proof do we have?

Is this technically true?

✅ Key Takeaways

  1. Domain flipping works.
If a company hasn’t secured obvious domain variations, someone else can buy them and later sell them for profit.
  2. Always verify claims.
A 10-second Whois lookup can stop misinformation from spreading.
